Deloitte - IFRS for UK Companies Seminar Thu 4th March 2010 - Thu 4th March 2010

As you may already be aware, the UK Accounting Standards Board (ASB) has in recent months announced that they intend to implement a new accounting framework, International Financial Reporting Standard for Small and Medium-Sized Entities (IFRS for SMEs) from 1 January 2012.  This change will see the demise of UK GAAP and will affect the accounting framework of tens of thousands of companies in the UK.

Despite the title, the standard is not restricted to SMEs. While listed and publically accountable companies will be required to report under full IFRS, all other companies except those small enough to report under Financial Reporting for Smaller Entities (FRSSEs) will have to decide between adopting full IFRS or IFRS for SMEs.  This will include subsidiaries in listed groups which have not adopted IFRS throughout the group.

Businesses will need time to plan adequately for such a significant change; comparative figures will be needed from January 2011 and for many companies there will be significant tax implications of the transition to IFRS for SMEs.

As we expect that this change will be applicable to your company, we would be delighted if you could join us at The City Hotel, Derry on Thursday 4 March for a seminar which will provide an overview of the expected changes and consider the potential consequences for your business.  The seminar will be led by myself and tax partner, Glenn Roberts.  The agenda is as follows:

·         8.30am - Registration
·         8.50am - Welcome from David Crawford
·         9.00am - Breakfast
·         9.20am - Robert Clark - Accounting/Audit overview
·         9.40am -  Steven Stewart - Tax implications
·         10.00am -  Conclusion and Q & A, Glenn Roberts
