Derry's Chamber of Commerce

Thursday 19th November 2009

The Chamber of Commerce in Derry is widely recognised as the leading voice of business in the North West.  It is one of the leading Chambers on the Island of Ireland and the 2nd largest in Northern Ireland.  The Chamber is the only business representation organisation in the NW of Ireland that is locally based, locally managed, with local focus but national influence.  Our members benefit from our strong local knowledge and influence which stems from our base within the region.

However the focus is not solely local.  In representing our members interests, lobbying and influencing activities centre on many policy and legislative issues that require attention at a national level.

Currently led by President, Mr Jim Sammon, and Chief Executive, Sinead McLaughlin, the Chamber's Vision is to be the Heartbeat of a confident, competitive and innovative region.  The mission of the Chamber is to represent members best interests, however that does not mean that this Chamber is member centric.  Members are are at the heart of our activity but much of the focus of the work of the Chamber is in the realisation of the region achieving its full economic potential.

The Chamber's aims are to:-

  • To create and sustain reinforcing relationships among businesses and between businesses and the community.

  • To promote private enterprise, business excellence and individual achievement.

  • Be proactive in working with partnership organisations in the region to identify and address issues which will support positive regional economic development and business growth.

  • To participate in the development of Public Policy, as it affects economic growth and development of the region and to effectively express the views of the business community to appropriate levels of government on matters relevant to the North West.

  • Continually provide excellent & responsive service and communication to our Members and key decision makers.

  • To strengthen the organisation through increasing its membership and resource base. Strive to increase membership and membership involvement in the programs and activities of the Chamber, providing maximum value to it's members at all times.

The Chamber is committed to the regeneration of the city and region and is currently championing the development of a Regeneration Plan for the city.  Have your say.

Testimonials

I have found the Chamber a very effective way of meeting the decision makers within a Company, which increases our chance of doing business with them. My company has done work for over a third of the member Companies.Jason Scoltock, Tec-net (Europe) Ltd
