The Playhouse is delighted to announce that on Saturday 17 May, Opera UK will present Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Cosi Fan Tutte on its Main Stage, Orchard Street.
Cosi Fan Tutte is one of the best-loved operas in the world, a story of love, deception deceit and reconciliation. It will not only be a real treat for Opera lovers but when it is performed in the sumptuous surroundings of the main stage in St Columb's Hall, it's sure to be a night to remember. When two young soldiers are due to go to war, a comrade makes a wager with them. Will their fiancées remain true while the young men are away? What follows is a joyful round of deception and disguise in which the course of true love runs anything but smoothly as the soldiers attempt to put their ladies fidelity to the test.
Directed by Jane McCulloch and sung in English with a new translation by Jeremy Sands, Mozart's bittersweet comedy is relocated to England in the summer 1914 and the last carefree days before the outbreak of the Great War. Opera UK has forged itself a considerable reputation, working with dynamic directors and casts chosen from the major conservatoires their productions bring a fresh and vibrant approach to the great operatic works.
