THE GREAT GREEN ENERGY DEBATE

Recent changes in weather patterns have fired up debate on where we will get our energy from in the future and how we can slow climate change.

With conflicting opinion on what should be done a new environmental group (MAOR) recognised the need for clear information on different energy sources. Local watersports centre, Creggan Country Park has been using renewable energy (wind and water power) at its site for some time. At 1pm on Friday 4th April the park will host a series of seminars on renewable energy sources. Speakers will focus on solar power, wind energy and geo-thermal energy.

The event at Creggan Country Park is just one of a series of events as part of a public debate on the issues. The Energy Forum Fortnight runs from Monday 31st March to Saturday 12th April 2008 across the city and features a programme of film, media discussions and a Citizen's Forum focusing on future energy options.

Karen Healy, Environmental Officer at Creggan Country Park welcomed the initiative, "The Energy Forum will provide people with information on the different aspects of the energy debate. We welcome this opportunity to highlight the benefits of renewable energy to the local community and would encourage anyone with an interest in finding out more to come along and ask questions."

The event at Creggan Country Park is free of charge and everyone is welcome, advance booking essential. For further information or to book call 028 71 363 133 or visit www.creggancountrypark.com
