“Derry’s USP is our Youth” says Chamber President
Friday 23rd October 2009
Youth and Education are the two main themes of the Chamber’s 52nd Annual Dinner. The key event in the business calendar for the North West, the Chamber Dinner is renowned for its high level guests, challenging speeches and all round good night’s entertainment.
The keynote address will be presented by a noted academic and entrepreneur, Professor David Chiddick. David is Vice Chancellor of University of Lincoln. Professor Chiddick has been involved over the past 9 years in developing the University of Lincoln, which has transformed the city of Lincoln.
As the author of the U4D vision for the development of the city’s university offering, there is no doubt that all ears will be on the Professor.

Chamber President Jim Sammon commented, “We have aspirations for this city that we want to turn into a reality – sooner rather than later. And the two things we need to make those aspirations a reality are to maintain our vibrant youthful population and a dynamic and substantial university presence. One of our Unique Selling Points is that we have one of the most youthful populations on these islands. This dinner will be celebrating that youth, listening to that youth and we hope it acts as a catalyst for our city fathers and mothers to do the same”.
Jim continued “We have included this year a “student address”, to be given by Aoife Monaghan. Aoife was selected from a pool of candidates nominated by our local schools and beat off stiff competition to get the hot spot. The entertainment is also a celebration of our youth and I can guarantee this is going to be a brilliant evening with lots of inspiration.”
