City of Derry Airport News

Thursday 21st July 2011

It is with great regret that City of Derry Airport will no longer be able to offer the daily flight between City of Derry Airport and Dublin .  The current operation, provided by Aer Arann, which finishes today has received financial support for the past few years from the Irish Government under a Public Service Obligation (PSO) grant. These grants are provided to airlines to operate routes that are uneconomical to operate under usual circumstances. Given the economic circumstances in the Irish Republic , however, the number of PSOs awarded has been reduced and regrettably the loss of this route is a direct result of the cuts.

City of Derry Airport have been in discussion with a number of other airlines about operating the route but without the support of a PSO it has not been possible to replace at this time. We continue to engage with a number of airlines about providing the service as we recognise the importance to the local and regional community.

"We joined the Chamber many years ago as we thought it was the right thing to do, however after getting to know its potential for advice, business support and most of all its network of contacts we have found it invaluable in the growth of our business."Ian Crowe , Managing Director , CPC Office Supplies Ltd
