City Partners committed to moving city forward

Tuesday 5th October 2010

The Mayor Cllr Colum Eastwood has condemned the car bomb incident on the Culmore Road saying the city will not deviate from its progressive path for future development and regeneration.

"This city is united in condemnation of this incident and is determined to continue with the positive work we are doing to bring about a positive change for everyone in this city. We will not be deterred from our partnership approach to maintaining peace and stability and working collectively for a better future," he commented.

Sir Roy McNulty, chairman of Ilex Urban Regeneration Company said: "The city has invested time and resources to determine the way forward through the Regeneration Plan process, which has the potential to make a major impact on the city. This is the time to be confident and committed to change and a better future for the city."

Jim Sammon, President of the Londonderry Chamber of Commerce said: "We are shocked and very disappointed in the actions of such a few and the impact that it has on the lives of so many. To put our city in centre stage in such a negative manner puts in jeopardy the good work that is ongoing in building a viable, innovative and competitive business region. At a time when the economy is struggling - this incident detracts and damages our reputation as a viable investment opportunity.

"As we approach 2013 our City is poised for the potential for growth and we must collectively continue on this path. The business community in Derry are trying to build a future for our young people, not to drive them away. We are trying to attract new business not drive it away. We are looking to build not destroy. Give this City and it's young people a chance -a chance to change, a chance to live a chance to grow and prosper we must make every effort to provide jobs for all of the people in this region.

"We joined the Chamber many years ago as we thought it was the right thing to do, however after getting to know its potential for advice, business support and most of all its network of contacts we have found it invaluable in the growth of our business."Ian Crowe , Managing Director , CPC Office Supplies Ltd
