IT'S GOOD TO TALK, WALK, OR RUN AT THE WATERSIDE HALF MARATHON

The Waterside Half Marathon Organising Team, with race partner BT, are keen to find out more about the runners, walkers, relay teams, and all those participating in the 30th anniversary celebrations at this year's event.

So if you have a story to tell, about why you've decided to take part, or if you're simply trying to raise money for a charity close to your heart, BT wants to hear from you.

Peter Morris, BT consumer director in Northern Ireland, said, "BT is delighted to support the 30th anniversary celebration of this great sporting initiative. We've a long association with the Northwest in terms of communications infrastructure, local offices, customers, and more recently as principal partner of Derry~Londonderry UK City of Culture 2013."

"Everyone has different reasons for entering the Half Marathon, and we really want to get people sharing their stories and inspirations. We'd like all those taking part to get online and write their marathon memoirs to help encourage others to take up the challenge." he added.

Tell us why you are competing, and be in with a chance to win a donation to a charity of your choice. Describe your reasons in approximately 50 words and send your story to us on halfmarathon@derrycity.gov.uk along with a profile or fundraising picture.

The Waterside Half Marathon takes place on Sunday 11th September catering for all levels of runners, joggers, wheelchair users and keep fit enthusiasts, everyone is welcome. An information and registration stand will be in the Foyleside Shopping Centre from 11am - 5pm on Friday 12th and Saturday 27th August for anyone wanting to sign up for this year's event.

Walkers can avail themselves of the new ten mile challenge walk whilst those not quite ready for the full 13.1 mile challenge can participate through the 3 person team relay running format. The Half Marathon welcomes on board two new official charities for 2011, well known local groups - Foyle Search and Rescue and Children in Crossfire. The Waterside Half Marathon is organised by Derry City Council with support from sponsors Seagate and partners BT.
