Launch of The Corporate Advent Campaign
Thursday 1st December 2011
As part of the partnership with Children in Crossfire,as The Chamber of Commerce's nominated charity, The Chamber would are inviting local businesses to help Children in Crossfire make a positive difference to the lives of young children who are suffering from severe acute malnutrition at St Luke's Hospital in Wolisso, Ethiopia.
The therapeutic feeding centre at St Luke's treats young children like one-year old Feyiftu who was severely malnourished and gravely ill when her mother brought her to St Luke's. The doctors feared for her life. However, shortly after her arrival at St Luke's, Feyiftu's condition improved when she was given high-nutrition food and excellent care by the fully-trained nurses. Thanks to the facilities provided by Children in Crossfire, Feyiftu was given the treatment she needed and started to gain weight within a matter of days.
To support the initative Chamber members have been sent a fundraising pack for Children in Crossfire's Advent Campaign "Be Festive and Fight Hunger". The pack gives lots of ideas on how your staff can create a fundraising idea. With Festive dress down days, cake sale, or Christmas Quiz, or buy buying one of the virtual gifts or donating in lieu of Christmas Cards.
It doesn't take a lot to make a difference: £10 is enough to buy a full one month course of a high nutrition food supplement for one child attending the feeding centre.
The Chamber President, Board and staff would like to wish their members a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. In lieu of Christmas cards they have made a donation to Children in Crossfire.
