PSNI Reminder to Local Businesses
Wednesday 1st June 2011Police in Foyle have issued a timely reminder to local businesses about the need for increased awareness in light of the recent bomb attack at a bank in the city centre.
Area Commander Chief Inspector Jon Burrows said: "Regrettably, I think this type of attack is something we could well see more of therefore it is imperative that businesses remain vigilant.
"If something looks out of place, or even just raises concern, contact your local police immediately. Never touch or attempt to move any suspicious looking objects. It is simply good business practice to regularly check your premises for anything untoward. This will help ensure that you protect your staff, customers and business all year round."
Sinead McLaughlin, Chief Executive of the Londonderry Chamber of Commerce, said: "I would strongly encourage local businesses to make use of the advice and expertise the PSNI can provide in this area. It is important that we in the business community support each other and the police to keep our city safe."
Jim Roddy, City Centre Manager, added: "A strong and prosperous local economy is part of what will drive this city forward and improve social and economic conditions for those who live and work in Derry. We must all play our part to ensure that the city remains a safe place for traders and customers."
Chief Inspector Jon Burrows concluded: "Even well established businesses can benefit from further advice and support. Regularly review security measures and check premises thoroughly both during and after trading - an extra few minutes could make the difference. Make sure all staff members are familiar with evacuation plans and regularly trained in relation to all safety procedures. By working together we are better able to keep staff and customers safe and protect local trade."
