People will always want news, but how they consume it is constantly changing.  Today’s media landscape is vastly different from that of a few years ago.  Newspapers are just as focused on their websites as their print editions; video footage is as likely to appear on a newspaper website, as it is on the website of a broadcaster like the BBC or UTV.  Social media is now the fastest channel of communication, and whilst incredibly powerful for sharing content, it is also potentially the most damaging.

With so many changes, it is essential for businesses to have a clear understanding of how to harness and manage the platforms of news distribution.  Taking steps to understand the local media landscape, how PR and social media can benefit your business, and how best to integrate essential communications skills into your business can yield huge benefits.

About Your Presenter – Mike Philpott

Mike Philpott is a highly experienced journalist and broadcaster and in the last 25+ years he has media trained some of Northern Ireland’s most high-profile spokespersons and politicians.  Mike began working in newspapers in 1977 and now contributes to BBC locally and nationally, as well as to international broadcasters including ABC Australia.  He has been a finalist in the prestigious Sony Awards on two occasions.

Mike will be supported by Vicki Caddy, Director of PR at ASG & Partners and Sasha McKnight, Deputy Head of PR, both highly experienced PR and media relations professionals each with over 25 years agency experience working with a broad range of public, private and third sector organisations, handling everything from launches, sponsorships and social media campaigns to major national news issues.
