Media Awareness & Social Media Workshop presented by ASG & Partners and Mike Philpott
Date: Wednesday 5th September 2018
Venue: Boardroom, Londonderry Chamber of Commerce
Workshop: 8.30am - 10.30am
People will always want news, but how they consume it is constantly changing. Today’s media landscape is vastly different from that of a few years ago. Newspapers are just as focused on their websites as their print editions; video footage is as likely to appear on a newspaper website, as it is on the website of a broadcaster like the BBC or UTV. Social media is now the fastest channel of communication, and whilst incredibly powerful for sharing content, it is also potentially the most damaging.
With so many changes, it is essential for businesses to have a clear understanding of how to harness and manage the platforms of news distribution. Taking steps to understand the local media landscape, how PR and social media can benefit your business, and how best to integrate essential communications skills into your business can yield huge benefits.
ASG & Partners is a leading Northern Ireland media relations and PR firm which has managed the reputation of major corporates and multi-nationals, right down to launching one-person entrepreneurs making their first mark in the media. In their partnership with Mike Philpott – one of Northern Ireland’s most experienced broadcasters and journalists – they offer some of the best media courses on the market.
In this interactive workshop they will help participants understand:
·What is PR and how does it differ from advertising and marketing?
·The media – who, what, where, when and how to engage with the media
·How to gain publicity in newspapers, radio and TV
·Why social media matters
·Why do you need publicity?
·What is news?
·What happens when you find yourself making the news?
·Why is everyone so scared of media interviews?
·The broadcast interview – what to say, how to handle the tough questions, how to maximise your media moment.
Who Should Attend?
·Business owners, business leaders and decision makers
·Marketing and communications professionals
This workshop is designed to be highly interactive. Delegates will be encouraged to ask questions and to take part in mini interview scenarios.

"This was a very worthwhile training event. I would highly recommend it to others even if they may never want to appear in front of a camera. The specific situation/scenarios covered in the training highlighted a raft of general communications points and good practice in a very condensed and effective way."
“The training, information and advice were excellent. The experience gained from the mock interviews and the feedback from the presenters was invaluable. An extremely enjoyable, interesting, informative and very valuable training experience conducted in an atmosphere of constructive support.”
