How many people will go hungry this Christmas
How many people will go hungry this Christmas?
Many of us take for granted opening the kitchen cupboard over the Christmas period and not having to worry about it being empty. Unfortunately there are many people in our City who don’t have that luxury.
With Christmas just around the corner,it puts pressure on many families who are struggling. To conquer this the RotaryFoyle Foodbank have launched the City’s first ever food drive to ensure that no-one goes hungry in Derry this Christmas.
Those running the food bank described how there has been ‘huge demand’ to date as more and more local families are referred from a range of different directions as they face being forced to choose between food and heating.
The Foyle Foodbank has given away 12,000 meals worth of food in just four months, although this is a fantastic figure in one light, on the other it’s quite pressing how many families need YOUR help.
John McMonagle, Chairperson of the Foodbank stated ‘We believe that there is no better time than now to help our local community and are asking individuals & organisations to host a Food Drive in workplaces, community centres and Schools throughout the City to collect food for local people in crisis’.
Now we need your help…
The Foyle Rotary have specially prepared collection boxes and posters to enable a Food Drive Collection point to be easily set up in your premises from the 10th November to the 25th November(or dates to suit you) and once full, volunteers from the Foodbank will come and uplift the donations before processing it and getting it to those in need.
All that we ask you to do is encourage your staff and users to donate non-perishable food items!!
