TAOISEACH LEO VARADKAR ANNOUNCED AS KEYNOTE SPEAKER FOR LONDONDERRY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE 60TH ANNUAL PRESIDENT’S DINNER
The Londonderry Chamber of Commerce has announced that Taoiseach Leo Varadkar TD will be its guest of honour at the upcoming 60th annual President’s Dinner.
The prestigious event is sponsored this year by Foyle Port and will take place on 13th October with a VIP reception and dinner in the White Horse Hotel.
The Taoiseach is expected to give a keynote speech to 300 business leaders from the North West who will attend the black-tie gala dinner.
President of the Londonderry Chamber of Commerce, George Fleming said:
“We are very pleased this year to welcome the Taoiseach to give the keynote speech at our annual dinner.
“In the months following the Brexit referendum result, we have been listening to our members and the concerns they have raised around Brexit and the deep uncertainty it brings.
“We rely on strong trading relationships with the Republic of Ireland and with our neighbours in Donegal and it is heartening that the Irish Government at the highest level, is represented at this year’s dinner.
“Brexit however must be viewed not only as a threat, but as an opportunity. Our position on the Foyle, in close proximity to the Republic, must open more doors for local business, rather than close them.
“We very much look forward to introducing the Taoiseach to this year’s dinner, to demonstrate to him the vibrant, growing and resilient business community we have here in the North West.”
Brian McGrath, Chief Executive of Foyle Port said:
“Foyle Port is very much committed to the development of the business community in the North-West. This event is the focus of the year for the members of the chamber and we are honoured to be the lead sponsor of such a special night.
“The Chamber is a crucial support network for businesses in the North-West city region and it represents a diverse and innovative business community. It is a great coup to have the Taoiseach as guest of honour.
“Foyle Port is a vital business operation here and by supporting the President’s dinner, we celebrate a very strong year for Foyle Port and a successful year for the Chamber.
“The North-West region faces many challenges in the months and years ahead, but maintaining strong relationships with our southern counterparts will be central to protecting, sustaining and growing business in the region – both north and south.”
Peter Boyle, CEO of the Argento Jewellery chain, will also speak at the dinner.
