Mayor urges public to vote for Fleadh

Mayor Cllr Martin Reilly is encouraging the public to vote for the Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann in the NITB event of the year awards.

The Mayor described the Fleadh Cheoil as one of the highlights of the City of Culture year, attracting more than 430,000 musicians and spectators.

Mayor Cllr Martin O’Reilly encouraging everyone to vote said: “The Northern Ireland tourism awards 2014 are in progress and it is the perfect opportunity to show your appreciation for the spectacular event by voting for the Fleadh. I would encourage everyone to vote. This was one of the key highlights of the City of culture year and seen people from all corners of the island of Ireland joining together to celebrate Irish traditional music. The people of Derry flooded the streets, and throughout the week of August 2013 it brought together communities and encouraged families to fill the streets to take advantage of the atmosphere. It was not only an historic event for Northern Ireland, but put Derry on the map. This award would give Derry and its people the recognition it deserves for hosting an event that attracted people from all over the UK and Ireland.”
