Jeremy Corbyn to hear NW business Brexit concerns

Labour Party Leader Jeremy Corbyn is to meet business leaders fromthe North West at a Londonderry Chamber of Commerce event later this month.

The Leader of the Opposition will address Chamber members at aBusiness Breakfast in the City Hotel in Derry on May 25th.

Chamber President Jennifer McKeever said she was delighted that MrCorbyn had accepted the invitation to “hear the concerns of local businessleaders over Brexit”.

“It is vital that our voice is heard by influencers and decisionmakers at this critical stage of the Brexit negotiations. We will be delightedto welcome Mr Corbyn to our May Business Breakfast, following recent visits tothe city by Tanaiste, Simon Coveney, the EU’s Chief Negotiator on Brexit,Michel Barnier and the Head of the Northern Ireland Civil Service, DavidSterling.

“This will an excellent opportunity for business leaders to speakdirectly with the leader of the Opposition at Westminster on the impact thatleaving the Customs Union and Single Market will have on our city and region.

“We expect the North West Business Community will be anxious tolisten to and engage with Mr Corbyn on how his party will support an open andfrictionless border on the island of Ireland,” she added.

The event will be one of the Labour leader’s major speakingengagements in Northern Ireland since he became the leader of the Labour Partyin 2015.

Mr Corbyn has been the Member of Parliament for Islington Northsince 1983. He is a former Trade Union Representative and is well known as ahuman rights campaigner.
