Strong welcome for deputy First Minister’s commitment to Magee expansion

The Londonderry Chamber of Commerce strongly welcomes the expressed and specificcommitment by the Deputy First Minister, Martin McGuinness MLA, to thesubstantial expansion of the Magee campus.  The comments came after ameeting between the Deputy First Minister and the Londonderry Chamber of Commerce.

Chamber chief executive Sinead McLaughlin said: “The statement issued by the deputy First Minister is unequivocal and is the strongest and clearest commitmentpossible to the expansion of the Magee campus in line with the plans agreed aspart of Derry’s One Plan.  That plan is for Magee to grow to 9,400 students by 2020.

“We had an excellent meeting with Martin McGuinness and we thank him for that.  Therewas complete agreement between us about the importance of the Magee expansion as the catalyst for moving the economy of Derry forward.  There is unanimity between us about the need for an improved skills base in the city, with a risein the number of graduates studying the appropriate course at Magee being an essential part of achieving this.”
