Manifesto for economic commitment to the Northwest Region 2015
The Londonderry Chamber of Commerce has launched its'manifesto' for the coming General Election. It is asking for all Parliamentary candidates in the Foyle, East Londonderry and West Tyrone constituencies to support the business-friendly policies to increase the number of jobs in the region and to reduce poverty. The manifesto has been launched to coincide with 50 years since the old Northern Ireland Parliament decided to back the Lockwood report and reject the city of Derry-Londonderry as the location of the headquarters of the then new University of Ulster.
Chamber President Gerry Kindlon said:
"We all know that Derry is the UK's unemployment capital. But we should respond with determination, not despair.
"The Chamber's manifesto would, if fulfilled, create jobs and increase incomes in the region. In particular, it would create the skills that are needed for the local economy. It would also create jobs in the local construction sector, which has been on its knees for too many years.
"Our manifesto is very simple to implement and has just one item - the expansion of Ulster University's Magee campus in line with the city's agreed One Plan. Increasing undergraduate and graduate numbers locally is the single most important step that can be taken to turn around our ailing economy."Download the Manifesto here
