Workplace Diversity Workshop was a 'Wonderful Event'

The Rainbow Project Diversity Champions hosted a Workplace Identity and Diversity seminar in Londonderry, alongside Allstate Northern Ireland and the Londonderry Chamber of Commerce.

Aimed at local businesses, the seminar tackled LGB&/T Identity and workplace diversity, taking place at the Derry Playhouse.

Recent research indicates that 34% of employees in the North West are not out to anyone in their workplace and 39% of employees have heard negative comments about LGB&/T people in their workplace.

The Rainbow Project Diversity Champions programme aims to engage businesses in the critical work of increasing LGB&/T visibility at work and tackling isolation, whilst highlighting the concrete business case for diversity and inclusion.

Keynote speakers included Ciaran Moore, Diversity and Inclusion Lead from Lloyds Banking Group in Belfast, who discussed the steps Lloyds have taken to change and build diverse culture, and inspire internal and external pride for LGB&/T staff and their colleagues/ families.

Gavin Boyd, Policy and Advocacy Manager from The Rainbow Project says ‘We welcomed a diverse group of businesses to the event which was a huge success,  and we look forward to supporting them in making diversity and inclusion key values of their workplace in the future.’

Damian Rogers, founding member of Allstate Northern Ireland’s LGBT ‘Embrace Network’ commented  “Thanks to the Rainbow Project for hosting such a wonderful event, highlighting the importance of embracing diversity in the workplace. Allstate Embrace are proud to be event partners”.
