Sinead McLaughlin has expressed condolences on the death of Paddy 'Bogside' Doherty.

Londonderry Chamber of Commerce chief executive Sinead McLaughlin has expressed condolences on the death of Paddy 'Bogside' Doherty.

She said:

"Paddy 'Bogside' was a Derry icon.  He was involved in so many things and has literally left his mark on the city.  The centre of Derry would be a different place and would look differently if it had not been for Paddy.  To a significant extent Paddy saved the city centre and created not just new buildings, but also new life in the heart of our community.  Paddy should, and will, be remembered for his work with the Inner City Trust in rebuilding the heart of our city.  But, perhaps just as significantly, he was also a founder of the Derry Credit Union, which has provided financial support and stability to many, many thousands of people here.  Paddy will be remembered with affection and thanks."
