A6 progress 'is great news', says Chamber
The Londonderry Chamber of Commerce has warmly welcomed the announcement of outline approval for major improvements to the A6 Derry to Belfast road, including the construction of a by-pass at Dungiven.
"This is great news," said Gavin Killeen, President of the Chamber. "The Chamber has been lobbying for the upgrading of the Derry-Belfast road for many years, This is the most important road connection for many of our members. Traffic volumes at Dungiven are just too great for a small road going through a town centre. The result is unacceptable pollution for residents and often serious delays for commercial traffic trying to get goods to market and decision-makers to important meetings.
"We congratulate the Northern Ireland Executive for now taking this issue seriously. We hope that the upgrade of both the Derry to Dungiven and the Castledawson to Randalstown sections will be completed speedily. We urge ministers to consider measures to bring forward completion dates, which would greatly assist with economic productivity in the North West and also for companies in the East that do business in the North West."
